LCCC basketball player named to All-American team
Lorain County Community College point guard Devaujhn Boddie was named to the preseason All-American team by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Boddie is in his second season at LCCC after starring at Archbishop Hoban High School.
“I have a big thing on my shoulders now,” Boddie said. “I have to perform every game now that I’m All-American.
Boddie stands only 5-foot-9 but according to his coach, Ralph Berrios, he plays well above the height.
“He may be the smallest player on the floor but he’s still the best player on the floor,” Berrios said. “He’s a great young man who has proved at each level he’s played that hard work pays off, and the rewards are just starting to come in.”
The Commodores are expected to be an improved team this season with Boddie leading the way.
“We’ve got a really great team this year and I believe we’re going to do really well,” Boddie said.
Berrios, in his ninth season as coach, thinks this may be his best team.
“We’re really excited about the team,” he said. “This is probably the most balanced athletically, and strongest teams since I’ve been here.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the kids mature, and by the end of the season, I expect to have more players receiving accolades and accomplishments from the conference.”
